xxavier edward carter (b. 1986, dallas) is a transdisciplinary artist of black and mvskoke descent. originally a football scholar at stanford university, he shifted to studio art, later completing an MFA at southern methodist university. his practice spans books, drawings, films, recordings, paintings, performances, and site-specific installations — often presented as publications and video works. he is head artist and engineer of goldfish dreams, a dallas-based artistic publication and production house. his work has been acquired by the nasher sculpture center (2020) and the dallas museum of art (2022). awards include the arch and anne giles kimbrough award (dma, 2011), freedom fellowship (yerba buena center for the arts, 2016), and the dallas/dijon fellowship (2019). participated in MoT+++'s performance plus 2019 program.
