practice

emmanuelle huynh is a french dancer, choreographer, and educator of vietnamese heritage. trained in both philosophy and dance, she received a villa médicis hors-les-murs grant to travel to vietnam in 1994 — an experience that shaped her landmark solo múa (1995), whose title means 'dance' in vietnamese. the work charts an internal journey at the frontier of darkness, tracing a body caught between light and shadow, interiority and exterior, vietnam and france. her practice explores relationships with literature, music, light, and architecture, combining contemporary dance, music, and visual arts across disciplines. she directed the centre national de danse contemporaine in angers (2004–2012) and since 2016 has led an atelier at the école des beaux-arts in paris. she presented dusk dance for the saigon river at MoT+++ in february 2020.
