Edén Barrena (Badajoz, Spain, 1991) is a visual artist working with drawing. Her academic training consists of a Fine Arts BA from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and a Printmaking MFA from the Royal College of Art, London. She did one year of her undergraduate studies at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart, Germany, thanks to an Erasmus scholarship. She was a recipient of the Villiers Travel Award (2014) and the artist-in-residence fellowships from the Fundación Antonio Gala (Córdoba, ES, 2015-16) and the Swatch Art Peace Hotel (Shanghai, CN, 2017). In 2018, Edén was invited by Bananafish Books, Shanghai, to publish her artist book The Promise of Blooming. During her residency at a.Farm, Edén worked on her project An Altar of Touching, in which she will research the poetics of offerings realised by people’s religious beliefs ascribed to Hinduism and Buddhism in Vietnam, Thailand and India.
