CodeSurfing (Lướt Code) is a creative tech collective from Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), which aims to situate technology and its various applications within artistic, research and archiving practices through poetical approaches. Poetics is the remedy for the needs of connections. Poetics lies in the act of placing oneself before another’s emotions, to sense them fully without the impulse to judge, to fix, or to resist.
Emerged from the collision of technology and art, CodeSurfing houses experiments of poetic programming, notably in their two projects: “Dự án tiếng Việt (Our Vietnamese Project)”, 2024, and “Vùng Biển Mẹ (Our Mother Sea)”, 2025.
While in “Dự án tiếng Việt (Our Vietnamese Project)”— an attempt to chart the Vietnamese language’s transformation into a monosyllabic language along with the resurgence of unmeaning syllables in the present context, programming is used as a tool to navigate through the abundance of Vietnamese tongue. In “Vùng Biển Mẹ (Our Mother Sea)”, programming becomes an index to remember the folklores of Vietnam’s Southern coast. In the medium of tech, both projects aim to explore and continue that poetic aspect of our life.
Join Nhân Phan and Yui Nguyễn, two-third of CodeSurfing (Lướt Code) in their upcoming talk at A. Farm to unpack what makes programming poetic? How can poetics emerge from technology and how does it connect to our life?
