Spoof
In Vietnam, Lego, or any system toy that can connect via studs, is called ‘xep hinh.’ So is slang for sex. Here, Song Nguyen “xep hinh” on images of people engaged in “xep hinh.” His lego structures built upon scenes of pornography take their shapes from the images’ points of interests. They create artworks that seemingly obstruct the view of people getting it on. On the other hand, they point out what is really there in the pornographic materials: the set pieces, props, facial expressions and poses that lend the material its supposed eroticism. In the end, a “spoof” is a distraction, a play on frustration. The climax is just lego.

We have a hideout in the rocky deserted fishing village for mental and spiritual recharge. This unique terrain of the coastal Indochina has been nourishing the signature plants. We collected flowers, stems, leaves and fruits that had fallen out of the trees and scorched by the unapologetic heat. Then, we look at their patterns under a microscope and package that into a zine. This zine shall be a lucid dream where you experience the land of Ninh Thuan on the cell level.
