OPEN CALL: Playing with Feedback: A sound-building workshop with Nikola H. Mounoud

English | Tiếng Việt

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO FRIDAY, 19/9/2025

‘Playing with Feedback: A sound-building workshop’ is open to sound practitioners, both beginners and advanced players, interested in the field of electronic music, especially computer music. With the guidance from Nikola H. Mounoud, a Hanoi-based Swiss sound artist, participants will explore the modular capacity of Cycling74’s software MAX/MSP to create feedback loops – a process where an audio signal is sent from an input to an output and then back into itself. This approach enables participants to use a laptop as a real time instrument, as well as to build a simple and efficient patch in order to control and perform live feedback loops (or any loops longer than 1ms). This instrument can easily fit to almost any style and genre in order to produce new and personalized sounds.

ABOUT NIKOLA H. MOUNOUD

Behind the soundless moniker • • • hide’s citizen Nikola H. Mounoud whom is now close to two decades of research and actions in the field of live sound making, processes in real time analog, digital and hybrid feedbacks in order to produce unique, powerful and highly dynamic sound live performances where irresponsible sounds, unexpected dense sonic blasts, sharp textures, complete non-sense and deep irrationality meets to allow both the audience and the performer to absorb an unleashed raw beauty of frequencies wrath. He works with a laptop using a custom made software based on MAX/MSP as well as an analog mixer. His live performance has also a specificity to always be tailored for every event and so to adapt to almost any conditions available. Over time he became skillful at using the most of what a sound system and acoustic of each room has to offer.

Aside of live, • • • is the co-founder of MEOVCO.comand half of Overload Collapse. He curated numerous live events and music festivals in Europe and Asia (sometimes with films). Over time he got involved in collaborative projects such as writing a technical glossary, created interactive exhibitions merging photography, sounds and responsive tracking technologies, collaborative performances with dancers, performers, painters, visual artists and did several sound installations in Vietnam and France… In 2024 he oversaw the production and artistic direction of the conceptual audio album published in the form of a paper booklet with digital access code A Harsh Smoker’s Sonic Compilation, reuniting thirty-three sonic makers from all over the globe. Since 2016, he has spent most of his non-touring time in Hanoi, Vietnam and supporting sound makers passing by in punctual live events held downtown whenever possible…
