run run run is a collaborative and ongoing performance that seizes the value of coincidence and spontaneity to playfully interrogate the worldwide phenomenon of the art fair. the performance, initiated by Cam Xanh, was originally devised to last the duration of her visit to Hong Kong for Art Basel. it responds to the pressures put on artists by an ever increasing frequency of fairs and biennials, further satirising the ubiquity of the international art fair model and exhausting homogeneity of its viewing experience.
the performance commenced on Tuesday April 26, 2019, after which multiple individuals became, at times wittingly and unwittingly, running conspirators. capitalising on the serendipity of coinciding opening nights, those from MoT+++ remaining in Vietnam simultaneously attended the opening of local fair Art For You. both articulations sparked further unprompted and impulsive sprints from others—the performance’s rhizomatic spread an unexpected mirroring of the art fair’s self-replicating spread across cities and continents. the concurrent uploads to the @motplusplusplus Instagram story, with continuing textual deviations from Cam Xanh, subsequently form a playful echo, reverberating between countries to produce a live update from the global art world.
