about Dom Dom
Dom Dom was established in the year 2012 as the first independent art center in Vietnam dedicated to the development of experimental sound art and its interdisciplinary collaborations with other mediums of experimental art. formed as an independent and non-profit organization, Dom Dom’s mission is to cultivate a generation of successors for Vietnamese experimental sound art, while also awakening new realizations of contemporary experimental music and art in Vietnam.

musician Tran Kim Ngoc – the founder of Dom Dom, who also teaches directly all of the courses, is often given the affectionate nickname “big sister” by her students and fellow artists – was named one of the 50 most influential women in Vietnam 2019 by Forbes Magazine. according to Ngoc, this recognition came as the result of her unique contribution as one of the first musicians to follow contemporary experimental music practices in a Vietnamese context, creating an indigenous ‘grammar’ with which to engage with a wider global contemporary praxis, creating distinctly Vietnamese works which gained recognition in the international arena. with a solid foundation of personal achievement, she established Dom Dom in 2012 and started programs of teaching experimental contemporary music, helping to foster a new generation of young artists who are ever-growing and expanding in multifaceted manners, to support and expand the experimental music scene in Vietnam. organizing the Hanoi New Music Festival in 2009, 2013, 2018 was one of Dom Dom’s major contributions in putting contemporary Vietnamese and Southeast Asian music on the map of contemporary global sound art.

with a deep-seated desire to develop a new generation of young artists with talent in improvisation and belief in personal expression in sound, experimental music, the many activities of Dom Dom are always multifaceted, original in their unique enactment and transmittance of inspiration. and from many small seeds and saplings have sprung up many exceptional singularities, successful names we’ve all heard such as Luong Hue Trinh, Tam Thi Pham, Huong DonNa, Nguyen Do Minh Quan, Nguyen Thuy Dung, Nguyen Huu Hai Duy, Phu Pham, Thu Thuy.
